THE WORLD AND HIS WIFE | 2019

The short film is about a young woman walking through her neighbourhood in a wedding dress. She faces several comments and reactions from people while walking the streets. The film plays with the construct of marriage as a form of entertainment within the western world. The symbolism of the bride placed into unusual settings could be interpreted as a display of empowerment.

How can one find empowerment in the repeating images and expectations one is confronted with? How can one find an individual way to resist the pressure of society?
FROM THE SERIES PILIPALA - GRIEF MAKES ME ANGRY | 2020

The photo series „pilipala - grief makes me angry“ deals with one‘s own transformation, which tries to process a traumatic experience over a period of time. Past experiences are mixed with social norms that seem neither compatible nor attainable. The traumatic experience becomes a mediator between values, appearance and upheaval and is charged with symbols. Wedding figures negotiate the role-play between fantasy and reality.

The unconscious mind seeks to play between self-reflection and the perception of others.
The position of the stone hands suggests the seductive influence from the outside, which in its cool and distant way promises security. The pictures illustrate the charged tension of the events through its repetitive symbolism. Grief, trauma and tensions spread throughout the body finally gather in one’s own centre. Trying to understand the unconscious mind, calming the storm within and learning to digest the trauma could lead to a momentary glimpse of fulfilled self-acceptance.

How do we learn to deal with loss within the structures of our own society? How can we find a connection to ourselves after a traumatising event? Does our view on the world and our surroundings change? How do we learn to cope?
